Starting today, State Road 48 is closed between Garrison Chapel Road and Oard Road west of Bloomington.
INDOT is replacing a small structure. Weather willing, the job runs through mid-November. The official detour is I-69 to State Road 46 to State Road 43. Local traffic can still get up to the cones.
That is not a footnote if you live west of town. It is the difference between a 12-minute errand and a loop that eats a Saturday. Students are back. Labor Day weekend is a week away. Water bills already went up this summer. Now the west-side shortcut is gone until the leaves are off the trees.
Slow down in the work zone. The project is not glamorous. It is the kind of road work people only notice when they are already late.
