If you use U.S. 50 between Loogootee and Shoals, budget the extra minutes.
INDOT started daytime lane closures on the U.S. 50 bridge over the East Fork of the White River around August 25. A temporary signal is running the traffic. The work is supposed to last through the end of September if the weather holds.
That bridge is not optional infrastructure. It is how half the county gets to work, to the hospital in Bedford, and to the high school games. Shoals volleyball and soccer already posted their 2026 rosters. Friday nights will now include a red light over the river.
Martin County does not generate the traffic of I-65. It generates the kind of traffic that cannot wait for a better year. Slow down, take the signal, and do not pass on the bridge. The river does not care that you are late for practice.
