State House Results Across the Mr.Newz Counties

State House Results Across the Mr.Newz Counties

Indiana voters cast ballots on November 3, 2026. Democrats broke the Republican supermajority in the Indiana House of Representatives for the first time in 14 years. In the eight southern counties covered by the Mr.Newz network the results were more mixed, with one clear flip and several Republican holds.

House District 62 covers all of Brown County and portions of Monroe and Jackson counties. Democrat Amy Huffman Oliver defeated Republican incumbent Dave Hall. Oliver received about 59 percent of the vote to Hall’s 41 percent. The seat had been held by Republicans in recent cycles. Oliver becomes the first Democrat to represent the district since 2010.

House District 61 covers most of Bloomington and surrounding areas in Monroe County. Democrat Matt Pierce ran unopposed and retained the seat he has held since 2002.

House District 46 includes western portions of Monroe County, Ellettsville, and Spencer. Republican incumbent Bob Heaton defeated Democrat James Pittsford III. Heaton received roughly 57 percent of the vote. He has represented the district since 2010.

House District 60 includes portions of Monroe, Morgan, and Johnson counties. Republican incumbent Peggy Mayfield defeated Democrat Carrie Syczylo. Mayfield received about 64 percent of the vote. She has held the seat since 2012.

House District 45 covers Greene County and portions of neighboring counties. Republican Kellie Streeter defeated Democrat Rebecca Mayfield. Streeter won the Republican primary earlier in the year after defeating longtime incumbent Bruce Borders. The district remained in Republican hands.

House District 65 covers Lawrence County. Republican Chris May retained the seat. Results in the more rural southern districts covering Martin, Washington, and Orange counties followed the same pattern of Republican holds.

House District 69 covers portions of Jackson County, including the Seymour area, and extends into Bartholomew County. Republican incumbent Jim Lucas defeated Democrat Chris Bowen and Independent Tyler Henkle. Lucas received about 60 percent of the vote to Bowen’s 31 percent and Henkle’s 8 percent. Lucas has held the seat since 2012.

On the congressional side, the area is split between the 8th and 9th districts. Republican Mark Messmer retained the 8th District, which includes Greene, Martin, and Orange counties among others. Republican Erin Houchin retained the 9th District, which includes Monroe, Lawrence, Jackson, Washington, and Brown counties. Both races were called with the incumbents holding comfortable leads.

The statewide House result ends the two-thirds Republican majority that has existed since 2012. That change will affect committee control and the threshold for overriding vetoes. In the Mr.Newz counties the local picture shows continuity outside of District 62. Official canvass totals will be certified in the coming weeks. The figures above reflect election-night reporting from the Associated Press and county sources.
